Dartmouth Commemorates Juneteenth 2025

Dartmouth commemorated Juneteenth with a discussion and gathering reflecting the theme Freedom and the Future: Advancing Black Health and Wealth. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ 60 people turned out for the keynote by acclaimed actor, author, and activist Hill Harper on June 18 at the . Harper, whose books include The Wealth Cure: Putting Money in Its Place, explored the connections between economic justice and the ongoing pursuit of liberation. 

Shontay Delalue, senior vice president and adjunct assistant professor in the Master of Public Health program, opened the lecture by singing a powerful song and debuting her latest research, Medical Misogynoir: A Medical Comic Series, that she co-authored with Vinald Francis, biomedical illustrator and graphic medicine artist at . The first issue focuses on the medical mistreatment of Black women over three centuries.

The commemoration celebration on June 19, or Juneteenth, brought together 300 students, faculty, and staff to enjoy local food trucks, music, and space for connection and reflection. Held on Dartmouth-owned greenspace on Clement Road, the lunchtime gathering honored the spirit of joy and resistance embodied by the federal holiday.
